About the Handcrafted Series
This gorgeous, customizable series brings a whole new level of artistic beauty to the timeless quality of genuine hardwood shutters. You can choose from six designer finishing techniques—choosing one or even combining them to end up with a truly one-of-a-kind shutter. The six techniques are:
- Classic distressed, which gives the window treatment a beautiful, worn look through glazing, dents, enhanced wormholes (from actual worms), and cracks.
- Heirloom distressed is great for people who want to bring a rustic, old-world look to their homes. It includes techniques such as burnishing, rasping, and flyspecking (the small dark, nonuniform specks).
- The glazed technique enhances the richness of the stained finish through hand-rubbed glaze.
- Glazed and burnished takes the glazed effect a little further by hand-sanding the frame corners and key areas before the glaze is applied—it creates an antiqued effect.
- The rustic technique enhances the naturally occurring characteristics of the wood to result in a unique window treatment.
- The textured technique creates contrast and depth from the wood’s natural grain to bring out the true beauty of the genuine hardwood.
