The 2019 Color of the Year From Pantone

2019 Color of the Year

Recently, we talked about the Colors of the Year that Pantone introduced in past years. From hues such as Greenery and Marsala to Rose Quartz and Emerald Green, the trends from years past have either worked for consumers or not. But at the least, it’s been interesting to look at what color can mean to people in terms of mood and tone throughout a year—and in a home. At F&R Interiors serving the greater Los Angeles area, we love exploring color and helping our customers fall in love with new looks. That’s why we’re pleased to introduce this year’s Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral. Read on to learn more!

Arriving at the Color of the Year

To determine each year’s trending color selection, the color experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for color inspiration, such as new artists, fashion, all areas of design, and popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles and socio-economic conditions. They identify “proof points,” which help inform how people will respond to a color each year. “Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities,” noted Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “The humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord.”

Meet Living Coral

Last year’s Color of the Year was bold Ultra Violet. For 2019, it is PANTONE Living Coral, which has a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge. As Pantone notes, Living Coral “is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color.” And already, it’s hit storefronts like an ocean wave. If you want to add Living Coral to your home, you can find it in anything from kitchen gadgets and appliances to home décor. Consider using Living Coral on your walls, window coverings, custom bedding, or accent pieces to create a tranquil retreat and more. You can use complementary colors (check out Pantone’s suggestions here: https://www.pantone.com/color-intelligence/color-of-the-year/color-of-the-year-2019-palette-exploration) to offset the specific coral hue and to create a complete ambiance. For example, you could get decorative throw pillows in aqua and throws in seafoam. Or add vases, artwork, or table lamps in one of the colors to bring out a pop.
