Springtime Prep For Your Home
April is well underway, and so is spring cleaning and house prep. At F&R Interiors serving the greater Los Angeles area, we know a thing or two about welcoming spring, and we have a few elements you might consider for your home. Read on!
Turn It Around
If you have a tendency to just chuck things in the garage or basement thinking you’ll “deal with them later,” you’re not alone. It’s a pretty standard practice for lots of folks. And, really, now is a great time to decide it’s “later.” Attack that garage and ditch the junk and clean out the road gunk. Reorganize that basement or storage area. Let go of the things you really don’t need. And—bonus—take the time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Give the Dryer Some Love
Even if you do a great job at cleaning the lint from your dryer screen with every load, lint can still build up in your machine and in the ducts. If that happens, you’ve got a fire hazard on your hands, so it’s important to remove it. But don’t worry—it’s a pretty easy process. Just disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer and remove the lint with a vent brush or a strong vacuum. Also be sure to brush the lint from the external dryer vent cover outside your home.
Take Care of Your Windows
Weather and grime create icky windows over time, and you might not even notice it. Clean the inside and outside of the glass—or consider hiring a professional if you can’t reach any tall spots. Also be sure to clean the screens, to ensure you get all the buildup that might be there. Repair any breaks or replace screens that are beyond repair. Finally, do some maintenance on your window treatments. If you have blinds or shades, simply dust them, and if you have a treatment like Silhouette® Window Shadings, vacuum it with the brush attachment. For cellular shades such as Duette® Honeycomb Shades, use compressed air to clean the cells. And if you have aluminum or faux wood blinds (such as Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds or Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds), you can remove them and clean them with lukewarm water in a bathtub or sink. Reinstall the treatment while it’s still damp, and lower it to let it completely dry. Finally, if you decide you need to replace your treatments, be sure to speak with one of our representatives. We’ll be happy to help you find the product that will suit your needs.
