Color in a Room
Adding color to a room doesn’t have to be terrifying. In fact, at F&R Interiors serving the greater Los Angeles area, we help our customers get past that fear of “not doing it right” all the time. In fact, we’ve got a few suggestions below that can help the whole process seem less daunting. Read on to learn more!
Bring on the Color
Color can powerfully set the tone of a room, and it starts by choosing your hue, which is largely determined by personal preference. But don’t forget that how you use the color also matters. Here are some ways to think about it:
- Neutral isn’t the same as boring. Neutral color palettes are classic, and they add a certain serenity to a room. Consider warm neutrals like ivory tones; on the other end, you could go with rich chocolate hues. Window fashions like Duette® Cellular Shades are offered in numerous neutral colors to enhance a room.
- You can also choose bold. Choose one surface to add a bright and/or bold color or pattern. For example, think about a primary focal point in the space, such as a standout wall or your kitchen backsplash. Throughout the rest of the room, use complementary colors in items like furniture, décor, and window fashions—custom drapes from the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™ can help you land on just the right color.
- Intensely saturate. If intensity is your middle name, go for it—saturate your room with color to create a truly lasting impression. Be sure to choose your highly saturated color carefully and always keep it balanced.
Use texture like color. Stone, wood, and woven materials add textural depth and can complement or enhance a color palette. Look to décor, furnishings, and window treatments as places for great texture. Provenance® Woven Wood Shades are created from woods, reeds, grasses, and bamboo and are available in over 80 material and color options. - Accessorize. Use custom upholstery to plus-up an old sofa or use your window fashions as the focal point—with the Fabric by the Yard™ program from Hunter Douglas, many window treatment fabrics are available for purchase separately, so you can create throw pillows, valences, or other finishing touches that will perfectly match your window.
