At F&R Interiors here in Los Angeles, we’re committed to helping our customers dig in to their goals and understand their options. If you’re just starting your search—or if you’ve been looking but have become overwhelmed—read on to learn more.
A World of Options
Window coverings offer many options, from draperies to shutters and everything in between. And choosing the wrong window covering can be a costly mistake. So before you start your search, you should determine your goals. For example, some goals might include:
- Unobstructed view
- Full view-through
- UV protection
- Energy efficiency
Window Shape and Size
Windows come in all sizes, from standard to large, such as sliders or walls of windows. Some coverings address standard horizontal orientation and others work for vertical orientation. If you happen to have a regular window and a slider in the same room, you can actually get complementary or even matching treatments to ensure that your overall look remains consistent. Also, if you have a specialty shape like an arch or a circle, you’ll need to look at treatments that best address specialty shapes, such as honeycomb shades, wood blinds, or shutters.
Tilting or Lifting
Each movement controls light and privacy differently. Blinds and shutters are considered tilters because you tilt the louvers to adjust light and privacy levels. Shades are considered lifters because they are either up or down. One great feature for a shade that adds more functionality is called top-down/bottom-up operation, which allows you to adjust light from the top or bottom or both.
One of the most overlooked options when selecting window treatments is the operating systems. If your windows are high and hard to reach, consider PowerView® Motorization. If you have children or just don’t like the look of cords, consider LiteRise®. We have a wide variety of operating choices for you to select from.
